No Lie. 8-27-13

I said she was a big girl, and that's no lie. We had our 18 month appointment, even though she is 19 months. I stripped her down, put her on the scale and got all of her measurements. The pediatrician came in. "What's the verdict;" I asked, "Is she a big girl?" Yes, she replied. Then, I asked for the details, "Is she staying on her curve, at about the 85th/90th percentile?" She looked at her paper, "Well, for length, she's at about the 85th %ile." "And weight?" She laughed, "For weight... she's above the 99th."

This morning, when her medical records update came to me, I entered her details into the WHO charts, and her head circumference is above the 90th. These are all measurements for a 19 month old; so yes, these are all accurate (I was kinda hoping that there had been a bit of a mistake with charting her as an 18 month old with those measurements). If there's a place I want her to be a little larger, it's in the cranium. If her head is a little smaller, my genetics training tells me that spells trouble. Of course, having a really large head is not great, either, but she's just a tad bit bigger there, proportional.

I was going back through her records, and she's only gained a pound in 2 months, which means she's really slowing down. In fact, she's stayed the same weight since the beginning of the month. I feel a little strange, if not hypocritical, mentioning her weight. Boop is not that heavy.

Taking Stock at Boop’s Week 47. 12-12-12

Here’s what’s happening at Boop’s week 47:

  • Winnie seems to have another UTI. I took her to the vet on Saturday just for a urine dipstick. Ended up having to pay another $82! Those are some expensive kidneys on Miss Winnie. They should be gilded in gold by now.
  • I’m within 3 pounds of my pre-pregnancy weight from my physical. I’m less than the weight right before I got pregnant.  I think losing 5 lbs would be great, just need time to do proper exercise; although chasing after a toddler is pretty good exercise. It still freaks me out to have that skin kind of hang there when I lay on my side; looks like crunches are in my future.
  • Heard a great quote, from some French guy writer, no less: “I spent the morning putting a comma in, and I spent the afternoon taking it out.” That pretty much describes how I feel about my work.
  • Boop was trying to offer Winnie some of her teething cookies, and Winnie was happy to oblige. Had to put the kibosh on that and keep an eye on things in the future. Boop has not been eating or nursing very well lately. I just need to get her back on track. Thankfully, we seem to have gotten over it.
  • This last grant was a bear. We’re just starting to recover. We had a naked tree for a couple of weeks. At least I got the lights on last night. Maybe I’ll be able to get more soon.

Taking Stock at Boop’s Week 31. 8-22-12

Here’s what’s happening at Boop’s week 31:
  • Boop is still putting on weight at a pretty good clip. Her grandma is having a bit of trouble trying to lift her due to all of her back problems, even after the procedure. It’s been a bit more challenging to get her to sleep in her portable crib. She’s waking up easier, and it’s hard to get her settled back down. I can’t dance around with her as easy. She must be 20 lbs.
  • She seems like she is having some ear problems. We’re keeping an eye on it. I think she was having trouble last week, but it wasn’t enough to make it obvious when the pediatrician checked. I guess we’ll just wait until it gets worse.  Fortunately, her constipation seems to be doing a little better. That will decrease her risk of an UTI. I guess she hasn’t had one for a while. Hopefully, she’s growing out of her reflux.
  • I got something in the mail about scheduling an appointment for the orthopedist about her hips. I dread for Boop to have more radiation exposure. Unfortunately, it’s been hard to put her shoes on and keep them on, let alone to put them on the wrong feet. She is doing well with her right thumb, but she still keeps her left thumb tucked under a fair bit.
